TC 269: Celebrating Wayne Dyer

TC 269: Celebrating Wayne Dyer

Host Robin Masiewicz is joined by her sister Amy Frost and Amy’s friend Jeff Drothler to discuss the life and influence of Dr. Wayne Dyer, who passed away on August 30th. They share stories of how Wayne influenced each of them in their journey toward more spiritual and balanced lives. Amy and Jeff share several of their favorite quotes from Wayne’s work.

“My beliefs are that the truth is a truth until you organize it, and then becomes a lie. I don’t think that Jesus was teaching Christianity, Jesus was teaching kindness, love, concern, and peace. What I tell people is don’t be Christian, be Christ-like. Don’t be Buddhist, be Buddha-like. Religion is orthodoxy, rules and historical scriptures maintained by people over long periods of time. Generally people are raised to obey the customs and practices of that religion without question. These are customs and expectations from outside the person and do not fit my definition of spiritual.”

Wayne was a frequent guest on Oprah’s Super Soul Sunday series. In the video below, he shares how he practiced the Tao, and defines “EGO” as “Edging God Out”.

Biography

Wayne W. Dyer, Ph.D., was an internationally renowned author and speaker in the field of self-development. He authored 30 books, created many audio programs and videos, and appeared on thousands of television and radio shows. To us he was a teacher, a mentor, and someone we watched evolve from a psychologist and public speaker to a true spiritual leader. He always treated people with dignity and respect, knowing that they too were “spirits having a human experience”.

His books Manifest Your Destiny, Wisdom of the Ages, There’s a Spiritual Solution to Every Problem, 21 Days to Master Success and Inner Peace, The Power of Intention,  Real Magic and Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Life are still top sellers, and many have been featured as National Public Television specials. His last book is I Can See Clearly Now.

Wayne held a doctorate in educational counseling from Wayne State University (interesting coincidence) and was an associate professor at St. John’s University in New York.

Wayne is affectionately called the “father of motivation” by his fans. Despite his childhood spent in orphanages and foster homes, Dr. Dyer has overcome many obstacles to make his dreams come true.

Wayne Dyer quotes:

I’m not a human having a spiritual experience, I’m a spirit having a human experience.

The more you see yourself as what you’d like to become, and act as if what you want is already there, the more you’ll activate those dormant forces that will collaborate to transform your dream into reality.

You cannot always control what goes on outside, but you can always control what goes on inside.

Change the way you look at things and the things you look at will change.

Be miserable. Or motivate yourself. Whatever has to be done, it is always your choice.

Don’t ever give up, trust in yourself, know that you can change the world, be fearless, reach out and serve those who are in need.  And don’t let anyone restrict you from what you feel deep within you, especially when they attempt to intimidate you.

Wayne’s last book: I Can See Clearly Now

In the video below, Wayne talks about how he helped his brother overcome a lifelong fear of water after nearly drowning as a child, and demonstrated the power we have to heal ourselves.

Wayne worked with Deepak Chopra, Eckhart Tolle, and many other authors and teachers. Together they produced books, CDs, and a number of PBS specials:

Wayne has inspired millions of people. We too are inspired. His life shows that with self-reliance, faith, intention, being open to what ever comes your way, hard work, and service to others, you can live the kind of life you want, no matter what obstacles you may encounter. His insights and wisdom live on, and continue to inspire us to walk the path. So thanks Wayne, for who you were, and for all you did for us. We’ll see you on the other side.
